This creamy dip is made with fresh dill and chives, and it makes the perfect snack, especially if you’re looking to spend the evening in watching movies.
I’ve made this stovetop dip with sautéed onions, cream cheese, and sour cream, and it’s so easy to make. Pair this dip with your favourite tortilla chips, toasted baguette, or naan bread, and enjoy an evening in.
Ingredients
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 small red onion -diced
1 (250 g) cream cheese brick
1 (250 ml) container sour cream
1 tsp garlic powder
Salt and black pepper to taste
1-2 tbsp freshly chopped dill -depending on your taste
Freshly chopped chives
Pine nuts
Serve with sliced baguette, naan bread, tortilla chips, and/or crackers.
Toppings
I love to add toppings to dips, especially if I'm serving it at a gathering. Here are some ideas:
Chopped nuts (pine nuts, walnuts, pecans, and pistachios)
Sliced or slivered almonds
Seeds (sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds)
Freshly chopped herbs (basil, parsley, chives, thyme)
Sliced olives
Cherry tomatoes or grape tomatoes cut in half
Diced cucumbers
Finely sliced scallions
Seasoned and roasted chickpeas
Directions
- Put the extra virgin olive oil in a pot and add in the red onion. Heat on medium and cook for a few minutes.
- Add in the remaining ingredients (except for the dill and chives).
- Mix with a whisk and reduce the heat as needed. You don’t want the bottom to burn.
- Mix often until the mixture is smooth.
- I like to whisk the mixture against the sides of the pot to ensure there’s no cream cheese lumps.
- Add in the dill and chives. Mix well.
- Serve hot.
- Top with some dill, chives, and pine nuts.
- Serve with your favorite baguette, naan bread, tortilla chips, and/or crackers.
